Why Manchester City’s Season Is Title Or Bust

This will be Man City’s 2nd season with Pep Guardiola as their coach. Last season, they were 3rd and you could tell Pep struggled in his 1st season in the Premier League as they were 15 points behind the current Premier League champions Chelsea.

City have spent a lot on their fullbacks this season. They have gotten key defenders in Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and Danilo. Mendy and Walker are sure starters as they are world class. Danilo was fantastic at Porto but had a very hard time finding a spot on Real Madrid and struggled there. He could not beat out Dani Carvajal for the right back position.

In all these transfer windows, Pep has spent approximately £211M on improving the squad. To spend all this money, their expectations should be to win the treble.

Juding by last season, their defense needed major improvements. John Stones did not look ready or stable last season but he is still very young and he has a lot to learn. Making a move for Nicolas Otamendi is something many thought would help them greatly but he has struggled during his time with the Blues.

Walker should provide them great defensive stability and attacking as he can assist on crosses and linking up play. Walker already has a lot of Premier League experience and can bring some leadership to this young squad. Mendy was a key part of the Monaco squad in their Ligue 1 title win.

This season I believe that Man City can win the title. They have bolstered their defense, still have great players in their midfield including new signing Bernardo Silva and arguably have the best attack in the league. They have all the tools to win the title, maybe even a domestic double. If City doesn’t win the title, it would be another disappointment for them and especially Guardiola.
