Welcome to the Jungle: Week 2 Recap

The Cincinnati Bengals suffered a loss against the Houston Texans last Thursday night. For the second straight game, the Bengals couldn’t find the end zone. The Texans scored once on a big scramble from Deshaun Watson on a busted defense of play. It was a low-scoring affair as the Texans won 13-9 at Cincinnati last Thursday.

Bengals have a lot of weapons to use, but they can’t figure out how to use them. After adding John Roos and Joe Mixon, you’d think the offense would improve, but they can’t figure out how to score. As a result of not scoring any touchdowns for two straight weeks, they fired offensive coordinator Ken Zampese, and promote QB coach Bill Lazor to take over the job.

Lazor was once offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins. He should be an upgrade right away. If Bill Lazor can use all the Bengals weapons properly, then we could be looking at a top 10 offense. The only thing that will hold them down is the offensive line

The defense was to blame for this loss. They had the play where Watson scrambled on them for a big play but that’s it. Atkins had 2 sacks, one including a monstrous hit on QB Deshaun Watson. Chris Smith also got a nice sack. Bengals traded for Smith just giving a conditional 7th round pick to the Jaguars. And so far that has worked out extremely well for the Bengals.

A scare for the Bengals defense is having Vontaze Burfict suspended for 3 games. But so far you can barely tell he’s gone. As of right now, the Bengals have the number one pass defense. Linebacker Nick Vigil has stepped up nicely to help with the Burfict suspension

The Bengals secondary played really good. They held Deandre Hopkins to only 79 yards. No other wide receiver had a huge impact. If the Bengals defense keep playing like this they’ll be a top 5 defense. The bing that’s holding this team back is the offense. With a new offensive coordinator that’ll hopefully change.
