GAMEDAY PREVIEW: Islanders Vs. Blue Jackets
The Islanders are set to open the season tonight in Columbus, as they face the Blue Jackets to open up the 2017-18 season. While many experts have projected the Isles to have a shaky and unpredictable season, the feeling inside of the locker room has never changed. They feel that they are a playoff team. We will finally see what this team is made of tonight as they will be tested early against a solid Blue Jackets team.
Doug Weight has announced his three scratches for the opening night, which are some what surprising. He has said that he will be sitting rookie forward Joshua Ho-Sang, along with Defenseman Ryan Pulock and Adam Pelech. The surprise here is certainly Ho-Sang. Josh has been talked about a lot in the organization and showed what he could do when he was a late call up last year. Doug Weight simply said that he wanted to go with experience to open the year.
The starting goalie has not yet been announced, but whoever is not between the pipes tonight will certainly be getting action on Saturday night, as they will be playing in a back-to-back. Both Halak and Greiss should see close to the same amount of action this year, due to the fact that they are both capable of being a number one goaltender, and both have had solid preseasons.
Puck drop is at 7:00pm and will be televised on MSG+ from Nationwide Arena in Columbus.
Let’s Go Islanders!
