Cristiano Ronaldo sold by Real Madrid to Juventus

You thought Lebron to LA was a big deal? Buckle up.

Juventus, the best football club in Serie A, has purchased superstar Ronaldo for roughly $130 million, and signed him to a 4 year contract. Years of rumors and speculations of Ronaldo’s unhappiness in Spain have been confirmed, as the 33 year old will be departing Santiago Bernabeu.

In his 8 years with Real Madrid, Ronaldo arguably became the most well decorated player in sports history. In 438 games, Ronaldo scored 450 goals and recorded 131 assists. He won the Champions League 4 times, won 3 Club World Cups, 2 Supercopa’s, 4 Balloon D’OR’s, 2 La Liga’s, 2 Copa Del Rey’s, and 2 UEFA Super Cup’s. He’s also proven himself as a playoff monster, having leads the UEFA playoffs in goals for the last 5 years in a row.

Ronaldo grew to know his new Italian club quite well, particularly during the UEFA Champions League playoffs. In the 2014-15 season, Juventus sent Real Madrid home in the semi-finals in a 2-1 victory. Two years later, the clubs would meet again in the Final, where Real would redeem themselves and defeat Juventus 4-1. And, in what became one of the most talked about games all of last year, Real Madrid defeated Juventus 4-3 in the quarterfinals largely in thanks to Ronaldo’s iconic bicycle goal.

Theories are already spiraling about who will fill the monstrous hole left by Ronaldo, most circling around the third best soccer player in the world, Neymar. The two clubs are scheduled to meet August 4th in Maryland, but should the standings play out favorably, we could see Ronaldo and Real Madrid reuniting in the UEFA playoffs.
