With Jabari Bird out for a scheduled rest day and Robert Williams still out with a knee injury the Summer Celtics won a scrappy game against the Miami Heat. The Celtics were paced throughout by the good play of former Iowa product Jared Uthoff who had 11 points and 6 rebounds, Pierra Henry added in 15 points and 5 assists and “the Dancing Bear” Guerschon Yabusele, who danced his way to a double double with 12 points and 10 boards.
The Celtics came out flat to start against the Heat and found themselves behind early following some hot shooting from Rashad Vaughn who tallied 8 points in 6 minutes to start the game. A hustle play from Guershon Yabusele down 7 sparked a run for the Celtics with 4 minutes to go in the quarter. The bench play of Jarell Eddie, Kadeem Allen and starter Jared Uthoff established a lead to close the quarter 19-16.
The 2nd quarter was scrappy even by Summer League standards and points were hard to come by for both teams. Pierria Henry who has had a decent summer league was active throughout and provided some very nice passing with his length and displayed a nice handle that opened opportunities for others. Yabusele also showed glimpses of Al Horford-esque passing that will for sure impress Brad Stevens and the coaching staff.
Pierra Henry kept the Celtics going in the 3rd quarter with a series of nice plays to help establish a double digit lead. Hassan Martin popped up for a strong 2nd half.
The 4th quarter was all Miami to start as they reeled off a 14-0 run and eventually belittled the Celtics lead down to 1 point with 2.3 seconds to go. The Heat saw a bevy of solid performances with 10 players scoring throughout the game. The Summer Celtics had trouble putting away the feisty Heat, and eventually the game came down to a three point heave at the buzzer which fell short.
The Celtics will take on the Portland Trailblazers Sunday at 8 PM in the Quarterfinals.
