Last season, Arsenal barely missed out on the top 4, finishing 5th in the premier league and securing a Europa league berth. This 5th place finish could have been improved if not for Arsenal’s lack of losing big games.

Player Arrivals: Alexandre Lacazette (£53m from Olympique Lyon) and Sead Kolasinac (free transfer from FC Schalke)

Player Departures: Wojciech Szczesny (£12.2m to Juventus), Yaya Sanogo (free transfer to Toulouse), and Emiliano Martinez (loan to Getafe FC)

Wenger tried to go after Thomas Lemar and Kylian Mbappe. Wenger offered £126m for Mbappe but the bid was rejected and eventually gave up. Lemar is still possible, as Wenger is still going after him after having multiple bids rejected.

Arsenal’s biggest weakness last season was the player’s mentality. When they needed to score a goal to get back into the game, some players just walked around on the field not even trying to help on offense and defense. This cost them in their race to finish in the top 4.

Another thing that could cost Arsenal this season is a lack of a definite trio in the back. This preseason, Wenger has been experiencing with different players on the back line. He doesn’t have a definite starting trio and experimenting this close to the season could be costly.

Arsenal’s biggest weakness last season was their defense. They gave up .84 goals per game at home and 1.47 goals per game away from home. Teams that finished top 3 gave up around .45 goals at home and .84 goals way from home. For Arsenal to finish in the top 4 this season, the defense needs to be better at both home and away games.

Arsenal’s biggest strength is their midfield, which consists of Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin, Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Santi Cazorla and Mohamed Elney. This midfield has great wingers and center midfielders along with a lot depth.

Arsenal has a great attack led by Alexis Sanchez, Alexandre Lacazette, Oliver Giroud, and Danny Welbeck. It doesn’t have great depth but Ozil, Walcott, and Chamberlain could all play in Arsenal’s attack.

Prediction: 3rd

Arsenal has a top 5 midfield in the Premier League, but experimenting to close to the season and their mentality is what will be their downfall this season.
